vitamin “ice cream” for dogs

It’s especially tough for our furry friends during these hot summer days so here are a couple recipes for homemade vitamin ice creams I normally make for Lulu. It’s packed filled with all the supplements I normally add to her food, in addition to the Tropiclean dog mouthwash I am *supposed* to add to her water (Lulu doesn’t like it added to her water). It’s a delicious, cooling treat that she will gladly lick clean. It’s also super fast to make, expect to have your ice cream cold and creamy within 15 to 20 minutes (without an ice-cream maker).

‘lulu lemon’ ice cream

Ingredients

1/4 cup of unsweetened, plain (greek) yogurt

2 tablespoons of coconut oil

1 teaspoon of turmeric powder

1/2 a capful of Tropiclean fresh breath water additive (link below in our Amazon Storefront)

1/4 cup of water

1 small freezer or ziplock bag

1 large freezer or ziplock bag

Lots of Ice

1/8 cup of salt

1 kitchen towel

1-2 wild mint leaves to garnish (for the photo)

*optional* Animology hip and joint pills (link below in our Amazon Storefront, for dosage, read the back of the bottle and administer the amount according to your dog’s size. You may want to consult your vet before starting any new vitamins)

PLUS any additional vitamins or medication you want to add to it (if your pup is not too fond of taking those tablets)

Directions

Add the yogurt to a bowl and mix in the coconut oil until its well-combined.

Add the turmeric powder and mix until well-combined. (Be careful with turmeric powder and white clothing/carpet as it stains quite easily!)

Stir in any supplements or medication you would like to add (if it’s in a powdered form). I added Lulu’s hip and joint pills that she normally takes daily.

Add half a capful of Tropiclean fresh breath water additive and stir until well-combined.

Top it up with 1/4 cup of water. Add more or less to aim for a thin, yogurt-drink-like consistency.

Pour the mixture into a small freezer bag and tie it securely.

In a larger freezer bag, fill it up three-quarters of the way with ice cubes, add the salt to the ice. WARNING: the bag will be VERY cold so be delicate with your hands and wrap it with a kitchen towel or a thick cloth to prevent your hands from getting too cold.

Add the small, tied-up freezer bag with the yogurt mixture into the larger one. Tie up the larger freezer bag shut to prevent the ice from spilling out.

Wrap the bag with the kitchen towel or thick cloth and roll it on the counter, or shake it, for about 5 to 10 minutes. Keep checking on the ice cream, you should notice it hardening and freezing quite quickly.

Once the ice cream is frozen, carefully remove the small freezer bag from the large one. Rinse it in cold water, open it up, and its ready for your dog to enjoy!
